WHAT IS OZONE THERAPY?
Ozone is a gas with high oxidation power, formed by the combination of three oxygen atoms. It is colorless and odorless. It has a high oxidation feature and thanks to this feature, ozone therapy, which can destroy microorganisms and toxins, is also used as a complementary treatment method. Ozone gas given to the body in a controlled manner activates the antioxidant system and strengthens the immune system. By activating red blood cells, it increases the tissue's capacity to carry and use oxygen, which helps improve existing disorders by increasing the nutrition of the tissue. Ozone therapy is an important adjunctive treatment and has almost no side effects.
Ozone therapy can be used in many diseases related to the musculoskeletal system. The application increases the patient's pain threshold and increases blood circulation by enabling the formation of new vessels. With ozone therapy, the renewal of cells accelerates, blood sugar decreases and the body's oxygen level increases, and accordingly, it is used in the treatment of many diseases. In addition to its physical effect, it also helps the patient feel good psychologically by improving sleep quality.
What are the diseases for which ozone therapy is applied?
Inflammatory rheumatic diseases such as ankylosing spondylitis, rheumatoid arthritis and Behçet's disease
Diabetes
anxiety disorder
Fibromyalgia and other common muscle pains
Myofascial pain syndrome
wounds that have become chronic
chronic fatigue
Cancer
ischemic diseases
Infections such as bacteria and fungi
Respiratory diseases (Asthma, COPD, etc.)
Migraine
Circulatory system disorders
Geriatric diseases such as Alzheimer's and dementia
AIDS
Skin diseases such as psoriasis
When we look at the application methods of ozone therapy, there are two methods: systemic and local.
The major method, which is one of the systemic applications, is one of the most frequently preferred ozone treatment application methods today. 100 cc of blood is taken from the patient intravenously. 100 cc of blood taken is combined with a mixture of ozone and oxygen for 10 minutes. This combined mixture is given back to the patient intravenously in the same way. In the major method, the application dose and number of sessions are determined according to the type of disease, the age of the patient and the medications used.
Another method, local application, is based on applying a mixture of ozone and oxygen prepared in appropriate doses according to the disease to joints, muscles, tendons, skin or body cavities instead of veins. One of the most preferred local applications is the minor method, also known as vaccination. Between 2 cc and 5 cc of blood is taken from the patients and combined with a mixture of ozone and oxygen, and this new mixture is applied to the muscle tissue.
Ozone therapy, which is applied twice a week for a total of 10 sessions, shows its effect at the end of this period, and can be reapplied as a single session at certain periods with the advice of the doctor. However, ozone treatment is completed in an average of 10-12 sessions.
