Lymphedema, popularly known as elephantiasis, is a disease that develops due to disruption of lymph circulation and abnormal accumulation of protein-rich lymph fluid in the body. While lymphedema can be hereditary, some types of cancer also cause this disease. In some types of cancer, such as breast cancer, ovarian cancer, and prostate cancer, the lymph nodes that provide lymph circulation are affected and these nodes are removed in the treatment. Thus, lymph circulation slows down and drainage of the fluid becomes difficult. There are 4 stages, swelling is minimal in the first stage. In the last stage, there are structural changes. Lymphedema can be controlled. Its treatment is called "complex unloading physiotherapy". It is planned according to the patient. In general, treatment includes manual lymph drainage, exercise appropriate to the patient, pneumatic compression device, skin care and bandaging. Bandaging is decided according to the patient's condition. As a result of the treatment, appropriate protective lymphedema compression clothing is recommended for the patient.
