Spina bifida is a disease characterized by the baby being born with a gap in the spine and a disconnection in the spinal nerves. It can be understood whether a baby has spina bifida in the first months of pregnancy. Although the exact cause is not known, folic acid deficiency is thought to cause spina bifida. There are three types, and the most common is spina bifida occulta. Rehabilitation of children with spina bifida should begin immediately after birth. The child's participation in life should be ensured with a multidisciplinary approach. Physiotherapists support children with spina bifida in timely crawling, walking and postural practices according to the child's level. In addition, they support children with spina bifida to prevent the development of scoliosis with child-specific orthoses, to support timely walking and to be independent in daily living activities.
